The South African Association for Food Science & Technology (SAAFoST) hosted a webinar with Prof. Suzan Oelofse the Principal Researcher at CSIR to provide an overview of her report on the food waste created in South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the webinar, “The impacts of COVID-19 on food waste globally and in SA” Prof. Oelofse explained how her report showed a decline in general waste, an increase in illegal dumping and an increase in health care waste. She explained the effects of South African government’s response to COVID-19 and the impact on food waste.
